Jihadists infiltrate Syria

A report in Kuwait confirms the Syrian regime's claims about the participation of Arab mercenaries in the violence that reverberates Syria for months.

Scores of Kuwaitis fighting alongside the Free Syrian Army (FSA) against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad after entering from Turkey, reported yesterday the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas, citing relatives of these fighters.

"Tens of Kuwaitis entered Syria through the border with Turkey to fight alongside the FSA against the forces of the Syrian regime," wrote Al-Qabas. Relatives of these volunteers also told the daily that large groups of fighters from Saudi Arabia, Libya and Pakistan were also in Syria.

Members of the FSA meet volunteers at the border, provide them with weapons and assign it to combat Syrian army units. The FSA also provides these foreign fighters with Syrian identity cards to use them when arrested, according to relatives quoted by Al-Qabas.

Commenting on the Jihadist infiltration of Syria, Ribal Al-Assad, Director of the ODFS, said:

"This is a worrying and dangerous development, which I condemn. This does not help support diplomacy and the Annan Peace Plan. It only gives a pretext to the Syrian regime to say it is fighting armed terrorists and not a peaceful uprising. It is clear that some countries in the region are sending Jihadists and inciting sectarian violence through their T.V channels because they are trying to drag Syria into a sectarian war.

"This will only give an excuse to the Iranian regime and their allies in the region to send their forces into Syria to give full support to the regime against foreign fighters. Therefore the end result will be a disastrous fully fledged civil war in Syria and a regional war. I call on all sides to stop the violence, to stop arming the opposition and for the Syrian opposition to unite and work towards peaceful transition through implementation of the Annan Peace Plan as that is the only way forward".
